So Brother's Fall Break was this weekend which meant that the oldest birdie flew home to the nest. And, our family was more than okay with that.
It made for a fun weekend of catching up and eating up(with a little bit of football and tailgating mixed in)! If you do not have boys in your family, then you are more than likely unfamiliar with just how much food means to them...it is an integral part of their life-truly a way to their heart. In brother's case, food means a lot. And, because he rarely has time to cook at Yale and the dining hall doesn't serve portions fit for beefing up giants, Mom put together a feast for us to enjoy on Sunday.
Collards, pork tenderloin, green beans, rolls, squash, etc...she really cooked up a whole shebang. But by far, our favorite part...
mmm, mmm, mmm her Pecan Pie! This is without a doubt a family favorite that Mom makes, and none of us were really expecting it until Thanksgiving, but needless to say, we were all excited about the early debut it made this year. I would have taken a pretty picture of it before, but my apologies- I was too busy grabbing a plate and fork to take time to snap a picture. Had to keep my priorities in check- knowing all too well that things like this don't have a very long survival rate in our household ; )...
After treating ourselves to dinner and spending some time together, I had to make my way back to school which meant saying goodbye to Brother. Naturally, Mom wanted some last minute pictures. Likewise, Brother naturally decided to ham up mom's emotions about his leaving...
...he was devastated...
...he was distraught...
...but really, he was gonna be a-ok...
And so the weekend came and went, and all- in- all it was a great time- full of reunions, celebrations, football wins, and in honor of Brother- lots of finger-licking, good food.
Everything was pretty much just as it should be.The goodbyes were bittersweet, but the pecan pie...well,it was just sweet!
